Tesla’s New Universal Charging Solution: V4 Supercharger
Tesla’s next step in the EV charging evolution is here with the inauguration of its advanced V4 Supercharger, prominently showcased at its Tottenham showroom in the UK. Departing from the exclusivity of its earlier versions, this Supercharger is crafted to accommodate the entire spectrum of electric vehicles, as long as they come with a CCS charging interface.
Having made appearances in European nations such as the Netherlands and Germany, this specific UK variant is distinguished by its integrated display and touch-free payment mechanism. In adherence to the recent government directives pushing for a more user-friendly and transparent EV charging experience, this screen distinctly illustrates the per-kWh charging expenses. Users can effortlessly make their payments using the Tesla app’s QR code or by simply swiping their credit or debit card on the provided terminal.
Tesla has pointed out that the V4 Supercharger retains the impressive 250kW performance seen in the V3 model, making it possible for vehicles like the Tesla Model Y to go from an empty battery to 80% charge in just around 30 minutes. However, Tesla has dropped hints suggesting that this Supercharger harbors the potential for even swifter charging times, though specifics remain tantalizingly undisclosed. Commenting on the occasion, Transport Minister Jesse Norman voiced his appreciation, emphasizing, “It’s commendable to see our newly established regulations around EV charging transparency come to life with initiatives like this. The overarching aim is to foster a level playing field in the market, promoting competition. Depending on how this pans out, subsequent interventions might be deliberated.
